How Long Do False Eyelashes Last?

How Long Do False Eyelashes Last?

Most of the time false eyelashes are temporary. The real question is: how temporary?

The answer is: it depends. Some false lashes can be worn for a few days or a week, while other lashes are just meant to be worn for a single night. Individual false lasts also tend to last longer than traditional strip lashes.

There are also lash extensions. Lash extensions are roughly permanent and can last up to at least 6 months or however long your natural lashes typically last. So there is a lot of range in how long your false lashes can last as it depends heavily on the kind of lashes, how often you use them, and how you treat your eyes.

Let’s cover the different types of false lashes and how long they last.

Strip Lashes

Strip lashes are the classic kind of false eyelash that consists of a row of either synthetic or natural hair fibers on a band. The band is applied directly above the natural lash line with a strong adhesive.

Strip lashes are the most temporary kind of false lashes and normally last about a day (~24 hours). Stip lashes need to be reapplied if you want to keep wearing them for multiple days in a row. The average strip lash can be reused about 3-4 times, though there are one-time use versions.

Strip lashes can last longer if you use a stronger adhesive. The problem is that most strip lashes are not meant to be worn for extended periods of time and can cause problems and discomfort.

Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions, like hair extensions, are semi-permanent and can last for a few weeks to months. Eyelash extensions are usually applied directly above the base of the individual lash and will last until the natural lash falls out. That means that you will have to take regular salon trips if you want to keep up with your eyelash extensions.

In general, eyelash extensions can last for about 2-3 weeks, though they can last longer depending on your eye care routine and how quickly your natural lashes grow. The length of the lash extensions also matters.

Eyelash Implants

Lastly, there are eyelash implants. These are permanent and will last for a lifetime. Eyelash implants involve implanting actual hair into your lash line that will grow with your natural lashes. So technically, lash implants aren’t really “false” eyelashes but they do require continual upkeep and maintenance.

Are False Eyelashes Worth It?

A typical pair of false strip lashes are very cheap and are a reasonable price to pay for 24-hour use. If you find yourself using strip lashes all the time and like having the long lash look all the time, then getting eyelash extensions may be worth your time and money.

Semi-permanent eyelash extensions are generally more expensive. Exact prices vary depending on the eyelash tech, but a set of lash extensions usually costs anywhere between $100-$300. Checkup and maintenance sessions afterward usually cost about $60-$120. Waiting too long can actually cost more because your tech will have to replace more extensions.

Tips to Make Your Lashes Last Longer

Here are some tips to make your false lashes last longer:

  • Stay away from steam and moisture. Water and cause the adhesive to dissolve.
  • Don’t use really thick eye makeups and creams while using false lashes.
  • Stop rubbing your eyes and try not to pull on your false lashes.
  • Store them properly. If you store your false strip lashes in a place free from dust. moisture, and other debris, then they will last longer and will adhere to your lids better.
